Awareness Seminar on Energy Conservation and Fostering a Sense of National Belonging Organized by the Training, Psychological Counseling, and Human Development Unit

Under the patronage of Prof. Loay Saad El-Din, Acting President of Aswan University, and Prof. Dr. Ashraf Imam, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, the Faculty of Energy Engineering, in collaboration with the Training, Psychological Counseling, and Human Development Unit, organized an awareness seminar on energy conservation on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

The seminar was held as part of the Ministry of Higher Education’s initiative to raise university students’ awareness of the importance of energy conservation and to foster a sense of national belonging.

The lecture was delivered by Prof. Medhat Altaf Abbas, Professor of Mental Health at the Faculty of Education, Aswan University, and Executive Director of the Unit. He highlighted the importance of energy conservation, emphasizing that it is not merely a means of reducing costs, but rather a practice with significant environmental, economic, and social dimensions that contributes to strengthening national belonging.

He explained that energy conservation contributes to protecting natural resources and preserving non-renewable resources, such as fossil fuels, for future generations. It also helps reduce harmful carbon emissions and greenhouse gases, thereby contributing to efforts to mitigate climate change.

Furthermore, energy conservation helps reduce pressure on the national electricity grid and enables financial resources to be directed toward investment in infrastructure, healthcare, and education.

Prof. Medhat further emphasized that energy conservation reflects citizens’ level of awareness and represents a practical expression of national belonging through active participation in addressing national challenges. This, in turn, contributes to improving the quality of life for both present and future generations and promotes a culture of rational consumption within society.

He also noted that raising awareness of energy conservation is essential to achieving sustainability and encouraging positive changes in consumption patterns. In addition, rational energy use helps reduce electrical loads, particularly during peak periods, thereby contributing to the stability and continuity of electricity services.
