An Awareness Seminar on Energy Conservation and Fostering a Sense of Belonging, Organized by the Training, Psychological Counseling and Human Development Unit.

Under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Loay Saad El-Din Nasrat, Acting President of Aswan University, and Prof. Dr. Ashraf Emam, Vice- President for Community Service and Environmental Development, the Faculty of Energy Engineering, in cooperation with the Training, Psychological Counseling, and Human Development Unit, organized an awareness seminar on energy conservation.

The seminar was held as part of the Ministry of Higher Education’s initiative to raise university students’ awareness of the importance of energy conservation and to strengthen their sense of national belonging. It took place on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
The lecture was delivered by Professor Dr. Medhat Altaf Abbas, Professor of Mental Health at the Faculty of Education, Aswan University, and Executive Director of the Unit. He emphasized that energy conservation is not merely a cost-saving practice, but a multidimensional responsibility encompassing environmental, economic, and social aspects that reinforce national identity.

He explained that conserving energy contributes to preserving natural resources—particularly non-renewable ones such as fossil fuels for future generations. It also helps reduce harmful carbon emissions and greenhouse gases, thereby mitigating climate change. In addition, it eases pressure on the national electricity grid and enables the redirection of financial resources toward key sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, and education.

Prof. Abbas further highlighted that energy conservation plays a vital role in fostering a sense of belonging and reflects the level of societal awareness. It represents a practical expression of patriotism through active participation in addressing national challenges, ultimately improving quality of life both now and in the future.

He also noted that promoting rational energy consumption enhances public awareness, supports sustainability efforts, encourages positive behavioral change, and contributes to reducing electricity demand—particularly during peak hours—thereby ensuring the stability and continuity of services.
