Faculty of Energy Engineering Participates in the 26th Middle East Power Systems Conference (MEPCON 2025)

The Faculty of Energy Engineering, under the leadership of Prof. Tarek Hassan Mohamed, Dean of the Faculty, participated in the 26th Middle East Power Systems Conference (MEPCON 2025), hosted by Aswan University. The conference was held from December 20 to 22, 2025, at the Tulip Hotel in Aswan, and witnessed broad participation from executive leaders, experts, and academics from Egypt, as well as several Arab and international countries.

The opening session was attended by a distinguished group of officials, including Prof. Loai Saad El-Din Nusrat, President of Aswan University; Engineer Amr Lashin, Deputy Governor of Aswan; and Prof. Mohamed Abdel Aziz Mahlal, Vice- President of Aswan University for Graduate Studies and Research, in addition to representatives of electricity and energy companies in Aswan Governorate.
In his remarks, Prof.Loai Saad El-Din emphasized that the conference is held periodically as an international scientific platform for exchanging expertise and presenting the latest research in the fields of electrical power systems, renewable energy, and artificial intelligence.

He highlighted that the conference reinforces Aswan University’s role as a regional hub for innovation, supports development efforts in Upper Egypt, and contributes to shaping a comprehensive vision for the future of electrical power systems. He also underscored the pivotal role of universities in leading the transition toward clean and smart energy, in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and in support of the country’s regional standing in this vital sector.

Prof. Tarek Hassan Mohamed stated that hosting MEPCON 2025 represents a valuable opportunity to enhance scientific and research cooperation and to support the future development of the energy sector in Egypt and the region. He noted that the conference sessions focused on exchanging scientific and research expertise, holding specialized discussions on the latest technological advancements in energy and digital transformation, and emphasizing the importance of developing cybersecurity strategies to protect smart grids from cyberattacks, considering cybersecurity an integral component of electrical system planning.

The Faculty’s participation in the conference included Dr. Ahmed Mustafa Awais, Head of the Electrical Engineering Department, along with Dr. Ibrahim Mukhtar and Dr. Mohamed Metwally, Professors in the Electrical Engineering Department. This participation reflects the Faculty’s commitment to supporting scientific research and its outcomes in the fields of energy and sustainable development.
