The Secretariat of the Supreme Council has received a letter from Acting Head of the Central Administration for the Affairs of the Office of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, enclosing a report from Major General Assistant for Security Affairs at the Cabinet, concerning the following:
“Recently, messages falsely attributed to the Cabinet have been circulating on social media platforms. These messages are being sent to a number of employees across various ministries and governmental bodies, inviting them to attend an online meeting with the Prime Minister and requesting that they register their personal data through electronic links. It has been confirmed that these messages are fraudulent and have no connection whatsoever to the Cabinet.”
Accordingly, the characteristics of these fraudulent messages can be summarized as follows:
-Unknown sender: The messages usually originate from unknown or suspicious phone numbers.
-Impersonation: The sender pretends to represent a trusted institution or a government official.
-Enticement and threat: The messages may include attractive offers or security warnings to pressure the recipient.
-Malicious links or attachments: They often contain links or attachments designed to steal personal information.
-Unexpected requests: Requests for institutional information, personal data, or financial details without a clear justification.
-Urgency and pressure: The sender insists on immediate action in order to prevent the recipient from verifying the authenticity of the message.
In light of the above, the following precautionary measures must be observed:
-Refrain from interacting with such messages or opening any attached links, as they are fraudulent attempts aimed at stealing personal or financial data by urging recipients to respond quickly or click on malicious links.
-Verify the identity of the sender before responding to any requests.
-Refrain from sharing any work-related information through social media applications.
-Immediately report any suspicious messages or potential violations to the relevant security officials and administrative authorities.
